Brace-Less
For my Materials class, I was tasked with selecting a manufacturing process and designing a product perfect for that process in an optimistic future. I picked Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) since our lab got a brand new Formlabs Fuse 1 and I wanted to learn its capabilities and limits.
After 3D scanning my arm, I designed a lattice brace with two hinges and a latch mechanism. Since I am not yet familiar with Grasshopper (but I’ll be taking a class on the program in the Winter!), I looked for different solutions for creating the lattice structure, and found a program called Carbon3d. With a few operations I created the perfect structure for my brace and set it to print.
